Important letter to the alumni from Kenya

03 February 2008
Dear Fellow Alumni,

Good day to you and thank you for taking the time to read this letter.

I would like to introduce myself, Ronnie Bhasin from Mombasa, Kenya.  I am a graduate of Les Roches Bluche (CH), as well as a BSc graduate of Florida International University. I am currently the General Manager of Pinewood Village, an exclusive Boutique property on the South Coast of Mombasa. It was my arrangement with the Director to take over the property and reinvent all its products, services and ultimately its image and quality. I am very proud that ever since my tenure 2 years ago, we have been voted "Best Hotel in Africa - Customer Excellence" by African Sky UK, two years running.

Unfortunately, the Kenyan hospitality industry has taken a huge hit since election violence began 4 weeks ago. Hundreds of thousands of hoteliers have been laid off and over a million people in our industry alone have been affected. Almost all international charters have cancelled their operations and removed Kenya from their itineraries. Hotels are running at an occupancy of under 10%, while several others have closed down their operation.
Regrettably, e venthough the political situation seems to settling down, the reality of it is that the Kenyan hospitality industry will suffer for at least a couple of years. We have previously experienced this in Kenya notably, after the Kaya Bombo Likoni clashes in 1997, the 1998 Embassy bombings in Nairobi and the 2002 Paradise Hotel bombing in 2002. Can you believe that the industry only finally recovered in 2006, 9 long years is how long it took.

I wish to notify you of my aim to help relocate displaced Les Roches graduates and other qualified Kenyan hoteliers to hospitality institutions worldwide. As the numbers are large, I will only be assisting managers and executives in my free time.

All I ask is for you to allow me the opportunity to forward to you, curriculum vitae's and applications for qualified hoteliers in Kenya pertaining to the vacancies that you have. I wish to assure you, that we Kenyans are an extremely hard working, dedicated, honest, sincere, and intelligent group of people. In addition, we have a strong command of English as it is one of our 2 national languages, as well as a good knowledge of French which we are taught in schools. This is why successful companies such as Emirates and Qatar Airways have huge recruitment campaigns in Kenya, where they source a majority of their team.

Please contact me via my details noted below if you wish to assist your fellow hoteliers .

I thank you sincerely for taking the time to read this email and hope that we can cooperate for a better future.

Best Wishes

Ronnie Bhasin
